Before Prince Hyobu, the father of the girl, came, Genji took the girl away to his Nijo residence in the middle of night. Only the nurse Shonagon accompanied her. Genji prepared a room for her in the west wing where no one was living. At first, Murasaki and the nurse feared what would happen to them, but gradually they became accustomed to the new life.
